TAASL AIRPORT EDUCATIONAL & FAMILIRIZATION TOUR

 

The Travel Agents Association of Sri Lanka (TAASL), an Association affiliated to The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, undertook to educate 120 staff members from their membership as it was felt that to be an area in which exposure was needed. This educational tour was sponsored by the National Carrier, Sri Lankan Airlines.

The one day programme which provided a comprehensive airport tour covering areas such as security check, immigration formalities, visiting passenger waiting area/ Transit Area, Duty Free, Lounges etc.

The 120 staff members were taken to the airport in batches of 30 and the first batch was taken on the 05th August, 2011. Subsequently the second, third and fourth batches of participants were taken on the 12th of August, 2011, 26th of August, 2011 and 27th of September, 2011 respectively.

THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETINGS OF THE TRAVEL AGENTS ASSOCIATION OF SRI LANKA AND THE IATA AGENTS ASSOCIATION OF SRI LANKA WAS HELD IN ROME, ITALY IN CONJUNCTION WITH SRI LANKAN AIRLINES.

The Travel Agents Association of Sri Lanka (TAASL) and the IATA Agents Association of Sri Lanka (IATA-AASL) which functions under the aegis of the Ceylon Chamber Of Commerce held its Annual General Meetings in Rome, Italy. The 36th Annual General Meeting of TAASL and the 23rd Annual General Meeting of IATA-AASL was held on the 29th May, 2011 at Hotel Pineta Palace in Rome, Italy, with a participation of 135 members.

In an unprecedented move, a common President, Mr. S. Paramanathan of Atlas Lanka (Pvt) Ltd was elected to head both the Associations for the year 2011/2012.

Airline Ticketing Training Like No Other

Well Trained, Experienced Ticketing Agents sell like hotcakes in this day and age. A considerable number of travel agents get employment opportunities in the middle-east. 5th of February 2010 was a very special day for the youth of our country who aspire to embark into the ever so glamorous Airline Industry, with promising employment prospects that will help them fly high. The Travel Agents Association of Sri Lanka (TAASL), an affiliate of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, and the Institute of International Air Transport (IIAT), entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to certify aspirant youth on Fares and Ticketing. IIAT is an IATA Accredited Training Institute that offers Airline related Diplomas, committed to skill its graduates and to assist them secure employment on a best effort basis said Ranjeewa Kulatunga - Managing Director of the Institute of International Air Transport (IIAT).

 

The stated MOU will facilitate the trainees to secure on-the-job training with a TAASL member orgnisation and the successful candidates will be given priority to fill vacant slots within the TAASL member companies said Mr. V. Mahathevan the incumbent President of TAASL. The MOU signing ceremony was held at IIAT’s group headquarters located at 484, Havelock Road, Colombo- 6, followed by a press conference. The training is scheduled to commence in March 2010 and will be facilitated by a much respected Coach, an industry veteran with a wealth of Ticket Office Management experience in a reputed airline.

 

The module will not only impart the basics but will encapsulate valuable soft skills that are required of an airline professional said Kulatunga, who was the former Manager HRD and Training and the former Head of the International Aviation Academy (IAA) at Sri Lankan Airlines.

Signing of the MOU with Sri Lanka Immigration and Emigration

 

14th October, 2009- Another Milestone for the members of TAASL An agreement was signed with the Department of Immigration and Emigration on the 14th October, 2009 at Hotel Ramada, to enable the TAASL membership to carry client’s passports without any hindrance. This initiative of signing the MOU was taken to enhance the services offered to the General Public. VIEW PICTURES

 

 The Passport and the Air Ticket are two important documents required for the overseas travelers.
 All Passports are issued by the Controller of Immigration and Emigration.
  Over 90% of Air Tickets are issued by members of TAASL.
 Travel Agents were not permitted to carry Passports of their clients for travel related purposes.
  Services offered to the traveler by the travel agent were limited.

 

   With this Partnership:

 Travel Agents will be permitted to carry the Passports of their clients for all travel related requirements and they can enhance the services offered to their clients.

35 th Annual General Meeting of the Travel Agents Association of Sri Lanka held on 01st July, 2010 in Shanghai, China.

The 35th Annual General Meeting of the Travel Agents Association of Sri Lanka (TAASL) was held on the 1st July, 2010 in Shanghai, China. The joint membership of TAASL and IATA Agents Association of Sri Lanka (IATA-AASL) joined Sri Lankan Airlines on its inaugural flight to Shanghai.

The Annual General Meetings were concluded successfully with the participation of 150 members from both associations. Many entertaining tours were organized by the association including a meeting with the Tourism Officials in China, for the benefit of the membership.

 

TAASL Members Night

A member’s night was scheduled on the 4th of December, 2009 at the Hotel Ramada from 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm. to facilitate membership interaction.

Since its inception, The Travel Agents Association of Sri Lanka (TAASL) has published the Travel Trade Directory, which provides comprehensive information of all TAASL members as well as other tourism related information such as Hotels, Airlines, Jewelers, Banks, etc. This serves as a useful guide and is an important source document for the Tourism Industry.

Presentation on Non Verbal Communication and Body Language Training

A presentation on "Non-verbal Communication and Body Language Training" was held on the 20th May, 2010 at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce for the students of the Fares and Ticketing Course as well as for the TAASL membership.

The Presentation was conducted by Mr. Kumara Galhenage, Manager - Education Services & Portfolio Development of the Institute of Airport Transportation (IIAT).

A Fares and Ticketing Course of the Travel Agents Association of Sri Lanka in association with Louis Preston School of Travel & Tourism was held from June 2009 to July 2009 where 15 graduates passed out at the Graduation Ceremony held on the 25th September, 2009 at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.
